    Reviews!

Take a look at some smashing links/reviews to this site in Amiga Flame and Amiga Nutta. If you haven't visited these brilliant on-line Amiga games magazines you've been missing out - go there now!

You may have noticed that Hyper-Galactic Links are still offline. I'm very busy at the moment, and will bring it online as soon as I can.

    Form Problems

Some people have been experiencing problems with mailing the FPU Poll Form (below) to me. Please make sure that your browser's mail preferences are configured properly before you submit you vote. This involves setting your Email and Reply-to fields as well as your mail server information (check what you've got set in your email package if you are unsure). If you still have problems, you can mail Lambda.FPU@Illuvatar.Demon.CO.UK - simply put "Yes" or "No" into the subject field.

Current statistics are that 98% think that Lambda should be FPU only - (and the 2% that didn't seemed to own FPU anyway!!!)

Some of the more vital GFX Routines have already been recoded for FPU (for testing purposes) - results are encouraging. Currently they are compiled in C (Slow!) for cross platform portability (sorry folks - we have to make a living you know :) - but Amiga ASM compiles (Fast!) will arrive shortly.

Lots of peopl keep inquiring as to when a new demo will be out. Well, due to the enormous task of recoding the game engine - don't expect one for a little while...

    Development Poll

The command crew at Lambda Sector are currently considering implementing FPU support for Lambda. Since coding two versions of Lambda (an integer and an floating point version) is at present too much of a task we are planning to drop support for non-fpu based systems. However, since we don't want to cause any unnecessary upsets for all the potential non-fpu owning Lambda Pilots out there, we thought it best to take a vote.

First let me outline some of the benefits gained by having FPU code:

  • Floating point calculations enable faster 3D rendering - therefore higher FPS rates.
  • Objects are calculated with more accuracy - no more disappearing or shaky polygons
  • A side effect of increased accuracy allows far bigger ships - Imagine flying the length of a 2km capital ship!!
  • Reduced overheads on the CPU allows more fancy graphics and more detailed ships
  • FPUs are VERY cheap, so upgrading won't break the bank
  • As you can see, there are many benefits - and its a good reason to upgrade you machine :)

Cast your vote! Please fill out the the form and click on "Transmit" when you are done:
